Home Remedies for Acne Scars – Will it Work?

Acne scars are markings, mostly permanent, on the skin resulting from acne cysts. These acne cysts are caused by hormones that fire up the sebaceous glands. It has long been a problem of almost all who passed through puberty and even some adults.

Acne scars are usually treated with over-the-counter products or topical medications. Some scars are so severe that they require treatment using procedures such as microdermabrasion, laser treatments, and dermal filling. These procedures may be costly and time-consuming.

But acne scar bearers need not fret. Home remedies for acne scars are plentiful. Little do most of us know that simple ingredients from our kitchens can actually help us in preventing acne breakout and getting rid of blemishes and pimple scars. Potatoes can be used to lighten pimple scars.

Rub the moist part of slices of raw potato onto your face especially on the affected areas. Let the juice of the potato dry on your skin and rinse after that. This root crop may also be used to help prevent acne from breaking out. It has been noted, however, that this method dries the skin. Make sure to moisturize and drink plenty of fluids after performing this treatment.

Lemon juice is also an effective remedy. Vitamin C in the juice helps repair the skin. Just squeeze the juice out of the fruit and, using a cotton ball, apply on the affected area. Leave it for about 15 minutes and wash afterwards with water. A little burning sensation may be felt. This is caused by the ascorbic acid in the lemon juice. It is no cause for alarm.

Natural remedies for acne include homemade face masks. You can create your own face mask from a spoonful of ground lentils, a teaspoon of milk, drops of ghee (clarified butter) and a little camphor. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and apply on the scars. After the mixture has dried, gently remove by rubbing it off and then rinsing with water.

You can also create a paste with sandalwood powder and black gram dal. Leave this on overnight and wash off the following morning with cold water. This sandalwood mask can also be made using rose water. If the mask leaves your face feeling dry in the morning, try leaving it on for only a couple of hours and/or adding milk to the paste. Ice cubes rubbed on the face for 15 minutes or so helps tighten the pores. Cucumber juice left on for 10-15 minutes and then washed off provides the same effect.

A tomato cut in half and rubbed on the skin may also help. Leave the juice on for a few minutes and then wash off with cold water. You can also try combining the tomato juice and the cucumber juice for a double punch of vitamins and nutrients.

Other healthy foods that act as home remedies for acne scars are:
pineapple – put a few slices in the food processer and use the resulting mash as a face mask;
orange – dry the peel, moisten a bit and rub all over the face;
and oatmeal – make a face mask using oatmeal, sour cream, yogurt and a few drops of olive oil and apply this to your face.

Honey is one of the best things you can put on your face. It is packed with nutrients that can help improve the appearance of acne scars. Just rub it onto your face, leave on for an hour and allow nature’s goodness to be absorbed by your skin. Rinse with water.

Using these methods can increase your success ratio when it comes to how to remove acne scars.
